Slavjane Folk Ensemble in Concert June 14, 2014

Mark your calendars for the 38th annual Slavjane Folk Ensemble concert on June 14, 2014.  This year's concert will be held at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School (OLSH) Auditorium, 1504 Woodcrest Avenue in Coraopolis, Pa., at 1:30 pm followed by a reception at Holy Ghost North Side Social Hall at 1430 Superior Avenue in Pittsburgh.

Slavjane's group consists of 35 students ranging from age 5 to 19 from all over Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas.  Featured in this year's show are songs, dances and musical selections from Russia, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia and Carpatho-Rus.  Unique again to this year's show is a selection focused on early immigration of the Carpatho-Rusyns to America.  Costumes depict early settlers to the coal mining and steel mill industrial areas of Pennsylvania.

The junior ensemble is sure to please everyone in the audience with their high-energy dancing and singing. To round out Slavjane's show will be the signature piece "Kozačko" in which boys display their athleticism and girls feature intricate steps and turns.

Join us for the reception at Holy Ghost North Side Social Hall where the dancing and singing continues. Entertainment will be provided by Orkestra Pobeda.   Delicious homemade ethnic food and pastries will be available for purchase as well as tickets for the sprawling Rusyn (Chinese) Auction.

Event tickets may be bought in advance and will also be available at the door. Adult tickets are $10, student tickets are $5 and children 5 and under are free. Tickets to the reception only are $5. Please contact Jackie Righetti at 412-749-0675 or Dean Poloka at 412-877-9351 to order your tickets or for further information.

Slavjane’s very accommodating “home” is Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church in McKees Rocks, Pa., where Father Frank Firko is pastor. The cultural program which receives financial consideration from the Greek Catholic Union is acknowledged by the Byzantine Catholic (Ruthenian) Archeparchy of Pittsburgh as an important organization of the Archeparchy.  Slavjane also has the continued endorsement of the Archeparchy as the official representative of Carpatho-Rusyn cultural and ethnic heritage in the U.S.

Slavjane looks forward to seeing you at their concert.
