HELP BRING JAKUBANY DANCERS TO THE U.S.

Dear Friends,

The Carpatho-Rusyn Society proudly presents the 2014 US tour of the folk group Kechera (Kecera).  This troupe is named after the mountain which overlooks Jakubany, the picturesque village of the ancestors of many of our Carpatho-Rusyn Society members.  Their spirited rendition of the customs and musical traditions of Jakubany has been featured numerous times on Slovak television.

On their first American tour, Kechera will be performing in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio and possibly Washington, D.C. from September 17th to October 2nd.  However, we need your help to make the tour a success.  Since its members are mostly high school and college students, the group hopes for your generous support to cover some of the housing and transportation expenses.

The rental of two vans costs $1,695.99 each and rental of the hall in Linden, New Jersey is $750.  Hanka Polansky-Janitor has made a very generous donation of $500.00 towards rental of the hall (djakujeme bars sumni Hanka).  Because of the distances between venues, the price of gasoline for travel will be a significant expense.

We have found sponsors to cover room and board but we still need your help to make this tour a success.  Kechera will be very grateful for any assistance that you can offer.  All contributions will be personally acknowledged by the performers.  Please make your check payable either to:

Anna Sherry or The Carpatho-Rusyn Society.

Please write "Kechera" on the memo line of the check and send it to:

132 Hawthorne Street
Pittsburgh, PA 15218

To those of you who have already contributed, thank you for your generosity.  For those who would like to help this exciting group of young people bring Jakubany to America, we will be grateful for whatever contribution you feel you can make.

Please help us.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me either by email at masivak@aol.com or call me at

Thank you in advance for your support.

Most sincerely,

Maryann Sivak
